Ek Villain

Rumour mills is abuzz in the film industry that Ek Villain is a rip off of the cult Korean classic I saw the devil. This gained momentum as soon as its trailer was out.
Ek Villain is one of the most anticipated romantic thriller of this season that has been directed by Mohit Suri and stars Sidharth Malhotra, Shraddha Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh, who  makes his debut as an antagonist with this film. It is produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor under Balaji Motion Pictures and ALT Entertainment. The film is expected to release on June 27, 2014.
The new trailer has quite a few similarities to the promo of I Saw The Devil.  Mohit Suri was apparently disturbed by the rumours. “That’s just one dialogue that I have taken from the Korean film’s promo, just like I have taken another dialogue from the film Jack
Reacher. The two stories are not similar, as the characters come from two completely different worlds. I don’t get the confusion around it. I don’t know why people are calling me to clarify. I wasn’t born with dialogues in my head and I have been inspired by the films I have watched and the books I have read.” stated a very upset and miffed Mohit Suri.
But lets pin point some key points from the two films that started those rumours
  1. Riteish Deshmukh’s costume has strong similarity with Choi Min-sik
  2. Both are serial killers in the film, who kill young innocent girls.
  3. The cruicial dialogue in the promo that indicates the probable entire storyline are same
  4. Even the posters of the films look similar.

But when a senior crew member from the film was contacted, he said in an irate tone. "If the presence of a serial killer in both the films makes the script a candidate for plagiarism then even Kamal Haasan's Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu could fall in the same bracket. Oh yes, add Rajesh Khanna's Red Rose to the list too. Weren't the central antagonists in each of these films deriving pleasure out of killing? By that logic, each of these films is lifted,"
Whatever the case may be, lets look at some of the earlier films directed by Mohit Suri and its rip off’s:
Even the posters of the films look similar.
  1. Zeher (2005) – ripped off  from - Out of Time (2003)
  2. Awarapan (2007) – ripped off from - A Bittersweet Life (2005)
  3. Murder 2 (2011) – ripped off from - The Chaser (2008)
  4. Aashique 2 (2013) – ripped off from - A Star Is Born (1976 film)

By the way, lets read the synopsis of the film I SAW THE DEVIL:

He promises himself that he will do everything in his power to take bloody vengeance against the killer, even if it means that he must become a monster himself to get this monstrous and inhumane killer.)
